Stranmillis offers a variety of study opportunities for visiting students. We specialise in providing immersive cultural, professional and educational study abroad programmes, with the majority of students opting to undertake a student teaching experience in a local school alongside their academic courses. We also offer school and community-based experiences for non-education students wishing to complete a service learning element whilst undertaking study abroad. Whether you want to come for a full semester, undertake a short student teaching experience or attend a summer programmes, we are ready to hear from you!
Our semester programme, which is available in Fall or Spring, provides an immersive study abroad experience that allows you to gain valuable intercultural skills, develop resilience and add international work experience to your CV. Semester students typically take 60 CATS or 15 US Credits and can choose from a wide range of classes, including liberal arts, education, childhood studies, kinesiology, theology and biblical studies.
Our Peacebuilding and Reconciliation Summer School is available to CCCU member institutions in June each year. The programme explores the cultural, political and religious history of Northern Ireland, In addition to Stranmillis faculty staff, the programme includes sessions from a number of guest speakers, including local historians and politicians; church, police and community leaders; and journalists, artists and musicians. This year’s summer School will take place from 1-15 June, 2019.

Our bespoke short courses are aimed at education majors looking to gain international teaching experience. Students spend a significant amount of time in local schools, whilst also benefitting from being part of an international learning community. Our International Team are keen to hear from US colleges and universities interested in developing tailored programmes for their students in Belfast.
